HC Deb 30 July 1953 vol 518 cc211-2W
106. Mr. Gooch

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power if he will ensure that coal supplies in the area of the Walsingham Rural District Council, Norfolk, are adequate in quality and quantity to meet the needs of the district.

Mr. Joynson-Hicks

I have made inquiries and understand that the allocations of house coal in the Walsingham area are about the average for the rest of the country, both as regards quality and quantity.

Mr. H. Butler

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he is aware that the shortage of house coal in the metropolitan borough of Hackney is greater than at any period since 1945; and whether he will direct more coal to that area in readiness for the winter demand.

Mr. Joynson-Hicks

I am making inquiries about the position in Hackney and will write to the hon. Member as soon as possible. As regards the last part of the Question, I would refer the hon. Member to the statements my right hon. Friend recently made about the coal supply position generally.
