§ Mr. Ian Harveyasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether the Boundary Commissions have yet decided when to start the next general review of constituencies.
§ Sir D. Maxwell FyfeSection 2 (2) of the House of Commons (Redistribution of Seats) Act, 1949, requires the four Boundary Commissions to submit their next general reports by the 30th July, 1955, but provides that a report by a Commission stating that no alteration is required in the part of the United Kingdom with which it is concerned must not be submitted before the 30th July, 1954. Within these limits the Commissions have discretion when to start a general review. The Commissions for England, Scotland and Wales, in exercise of their discretion, have given notice this week of their intention to commence forthwith general reviews of constituencies in their respective countries.
