HC Deb 29 July 1953 vol 518 c150W
63. Mr. Beswick

asked the Minister of Civil Aviation if he has any further information to give about United Kingdom participation in the United Kingdom-New Zealand air race.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The Royal Air Force has entered four aircraft (three P.R. Canberras and one Valiant) in a field of 12 entries in the Speed Section and British European Airways has entered a Viscount (V.700) in a field of six entries in the Handicap Section. My hon. Friend the Parliamentary Secretary plans to take part in the race as a member of the crew of this aircraft.

The race will start at 4.30 p.m. from London Airport on Thursday, 8th October, and the Royal Aero Club, who are responsible for the organisation at this end, have been informed that His Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester will be graciously pleased to start the race.
