HC Deb 29 July 1953 vol 518 cc157-8W
84. Major Anstruther-Gray

asked the Minister of Food why he has given permission for the entry of 15 million tins of Norwegian sild at a cut price with which British canners find it impossible to compete; and what steps he proposes to take to protect the interests of British fishermen.

Dr. Hill

No sild has been imported from Norway since 1950. We are now selling, at reduced prices, the stocks bought at that time in order to hasten the return of this trade to private hands.
