HC Deb 27 July 1953 vol 518 cc81-2W
55. Mr. Ellis Smith

asked the Minister of Transport when it is intended to take action on the dangerous length of main road between Trentham, Stoke-on-Trent, and Newcastle, with special attention to Trent Vale.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The scheme for widening this length of road will involve extensive demolition of property and rehousing, and cannot be undertaken at present. Improved lighting has been installed and at Trent Vale guard rails will be erected during the next few weeks. A refuge has also been erected in temporary materials at the Flash Lane junction and will shortly be made permanent.

74. Mr. Ellis Smith

asked the Minister of Transport the length of the trunk road between Trentham and Trent Vale, Stoke-onTrent; how many accidents have taken place between the two places since 1945; and how many fatal accidents.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The distance is 1.7 miles, measured from Ash Green roundabout at Trentham to the junction with London Road at Trent Vale. Statistics of accidents on this length of road before 1st January, 1948, are not readily available. Police records show that from 1st January, 1948, to 30th June, 1953, there were 282 accidents, of which four were fatal and 99 involved injury.
