Mr. Deedes

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government the value of rural water schemes submitted for approval; the value of schemes approved but not yet authorised to go to tender; the value of schemes authorised for commencement; and the value of grants paid under the Rural Water Supplies and Sewerage Acts, 1944 and 1951 to the last convenient date.

The total value of rural water schemes for England and Wales submitted to my Department up to 30th June, 1953 is £72,058,741. The value of schemes authorised to begin £37,069,870; the value of schemes approved in principle but not yet finally authorised is £14,994,318. The total amount of grants paid in respect of rural water schemes in England and Wales up to 30th June is £5,369,101. In addition a further £10 million odd has been promised.
