HC Deb 27 July 1953 vol 518 c79W
29. Mr. Wood

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will make a statement on the North Atlantic Treaty Protocol recently ratified by the American Senate, and its application to the troops of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation countries serving abroad.

Mr. Selwyn Lloyd

The United States Senate have ratified the Agreement regarding the Status of Forces of Parties to the North Atlantic Treaty. This Agreement is intended to regulate the status of the forces of any N.A.T.O. Power serving in the territory of any other N.A.T.O. Power. As it has now been ratified by four of the signatory Powers, it will come into force between them. Her Majesty's Government have not yet ratified the Agreement but propose to do so as soon as the Visiting Forces Act, 1952, has been brought into effect.
