Mr. Teddy Taylorasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if he will seek to provide local authorities in seaside areas with powers to prohibit wind surf boards from areas of the beach and foreshore;
(2) if he has received any reports of injuries or danger to young swimmers in consequence of the operation of wind surf boards near beaches; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. MellorWe have received no reports of injuries or danger to young swimmers from the operation of wind surf boards. The powers already available to local authorities under section 231 of the Public Health Act 1936 to prevent danger to bathers by regulating the navigation of vessels used for pleasure purposes within any area allocated for public bathing appear to be adequate for controlling this activity.
