HC Deb 21 July 1953 vol 46 cc201-2W
Mr. Greenway

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will introduce measures to promulgate suitable standards of hard hats for horse and pony riders; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

The current British Standard for protective headgear for horse and pony riders (BS 3686:1963) is being revised to provide a higher level of protection. When ready the revised standard will be published by the British Standards Institution. The various equestrian societies are represented on the committee conducting the review, and when the details of the standard have been agreed I would expect them to promote the use of hats conforming with it among their members.
