Mr. WhitneyAccording to the latest information available, the number of individual applications against the United Kingdom which have been registered and communicated to the Government and which remain under consideration by the European Commission of Human Rights is 168. Since proceedings before the commission are confidential, it is not possible to list the individual applications and their subject matter. The main categories of subject matter covered are as follows
prisoners (rights to correspondence, access to lawyers and conditions generally); immigration and deportation; corporal punishment in schools; closed shop; mental patients; nationalisation compensation; children in care of local authorities.
