HC Deb 21 July 1953 vol 46 c219W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will estimate the effect on the United Kingdom poultry farms of the abolition or suspension of the intervention price for bread wheat under the cereals regime.

Mr. MacGregor

Buyers of wheat for annual feed would benefit from such a decision if, as is likely, lower prices for bread wheat lead to rather lower prices for feed wheat too.

Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether his Department will press for the abolition or suspension of the intervention price for bread wheat under the cereals regime.

Mr. MacGregor

The Government have urged the case for the European Commission to consider either the abolition, suspension or reform of the special intervention arrangements for bread wheat.
