HC Deb 20 July 1953 vol 518 c7W
76. Mr. Osborne

asked the Minister of Supply if he is satisfied with the plans already made to deal with a possible slump in the engineering trade, following a Korean peace; and how long it will take to convert industry from armament to civilian goods production.

Mr. Sandys

At present some 87 per cent. of the capacity of the engineering industry is engaged in civilian production. I do not anticipate that a cessation of hostilities in Korea would have any appreciable effect on the level of defence production.
