asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many miles of new roads have been constructed by the Forestry Commission since 1945; and how many miles of these roads are open for use by the public.

The Forestry Commission, since 1945, have constructed in Scotland 643 miles of new roads. The Commission have not thrown open these roads to the public for vehicular use, but they are used to some extent by pedestrians, particularly in the National Forest Parks.
