HC Deb 14 July 1953 vol 517 c145W
88. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Minister of Works if he is aware that the number of cinema theatres in the City of Aberdeen is insufficient; that this is especially so in summer when the city is crowded with visitors; that the partially built cinema in Ship Row, Aberdeen, of which he has been informed, has remained unfinished for 13 years and is still unfinished; and if he will now grant a licence to enable it to be completed.

Sir D. Eccles

Because of the need for conserving building resources for more essential work, it is not the present policy of the Government to licence this type of work. I do, however, appreciate the desirability of completing this partly built cinema and when some relaxation is possible I will consider the granting of a licence.
