asked the Minister of Works the amount of building licences issued for industrial work, recently, in the North Staffordshire area; for what projects; and, in particular, what licences have been issued for coking coal plant.

The total value of licences issued for new industrial work in the North Staffordshire area, during the past three months, amounted to £397,209. Among the larger projects included in this amount are the followingG. Embrey, Newcastle-under-Lyne, bakery, stage II—£46,000. Booth & Colclough, Tunstall, pottery reconstruction—£28,537. G. H. Downing & Co., Ltd., Keele, tile-works extension—£25,000. W. Tatton, Leek, factory extension—£55,000. Doulton & Co., Burslem, pottery extension—£22,600. Michelin Tyre Co., Stoke, extension—£27,500.

No licences were issued for coking coal plant during this period.
