92. Mr. Patrick Maitland

asked the Minister of Food if he is aware that the average wholesale price per chip of 12 lb. at which Scottish tomatoes are sold on the Glasgow market slumped from 20s. on Monday, 29th June, to 11s. on Monday, 6th July, while production costs now exceed 15s. per chip; and what steps he proposes to take to encourage and maintain the home production of tomatoes.

To assist the home grower, imports of foreign tomatoes have been prohibited since midnight 7th–8th July.
