HC Deb 09 July 1953 vol 517 c112W
Mr. Houghton

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury how many non-industrial civil servants there are in the age groups 60 to 65; 66 to 70; and over 70.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

On 1st January, 1953—the latest date for which an analysis is available—the number of established non-industrial civil servants in these age groups was as follows:—

Ages 60–65–24,717.

Ages 66–70–1,701.

Over 70–182.

Similar information for temporary non-industrial civil servants is not available centrally.

Mr. Houghton

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury how many civil servants there are in the industrial grades, both established and unestablished, in the age groups 60 to 65; 66 to 70; and over 70.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

I regret that this information is not available, and that to obtain it would involve unjustifiable extra clerical effort and expense.
