§ Mr. Lewisasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he is aware that from 1930 to March 1953, the county borough of West Ham had a loss of rates, due to derating, of £2,395,602; 78W and how soon he anticipates being able to introduce legislation to remove that burden on war-damaged boroughs.
§ Mr. H. MacmillanI cannot accept the figures, and in any event the derating loss was taken into account in the block grant and the equalisation grant. On the second part of the Question, I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given to the hon. Member for Leicester, Northwest (Mr. Janner) on 17th March.
