HC Deb 06 July 1953 vol 517 c70W
Mr. Paget

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General what steps he is taking to clear the Daventry patterns off television screens in the Northampton district.

Mr. Gammans

The so-called Daventry pattern on television screens is caused by harmonics of the short-wave transmission from the B.B.C. sound broadcasting station at Daventry. The Corporation informs me that most of their transmitters at Daventry have now been treated to reduce the harmonics and the remainder are used as far as possible only on frequencies of which the harmonics are not liable to cause trouble. As a result of these measures there has been a substantial improvement, and tests are being made with the co-operation of viewers to confirm that the position is now satisfactory.
