§ 61. Mr. Sorensenasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, in view of the ratification of the International Convention concerning the status of refugees by Denmark and Norway and the recent decision by the Benelux Governments to ratify immediately, whether Her Majesty's Government would also now decide on early ratification, in order that the requisite number of six ratifying Governments can then enable the Convention to come into force.
§ Mr. Selwyn LloydHer Majesty's Government are anxious to ratify this Convention as soon as possible. There are however constitutional difficulties which prevent certain territories for whose international relations Her Majesty's Government are responsible from deciding at present whether they wish the Convention to be extended to them. Further possible action is under urgent consideration.
