HC Deb 03 July 1953 vol 517 cc50-1W
Mr. Anthony Greenwood

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government (1) if he will give a list of those local authorities which have applied to his Department for approval for schemes to improve the disposal of their sewage, but which have been refused, or have not yet been given, permission to proceed, indicating in each case the population in the authority's area and the river or stream into which its sewage effluent is at present discharged; (2) how many local authorities at present discharge sewage effluent, whether treated or untreated, into rivers and streams in the area of the Mersey and Irwell rivers board; and what is the population living in the local authorities' areas concerned.

Mr. H. Macmillan

It would take a great deal of work to collect the information asked for and I do not think that it would be justified. I shall, of course, be happy to give the hon. Member the information about any particular local authority or authorities in Which he is interested.
