HC Deb 02 July 1953 vol 517 cc46-8W
Mr. Dodds

asked the President of the Board of Trade what progress has been made in strengthening and widening the activities of the Monopolies Commission.

Mr. Willey

asked the President of the Board of Trade what steps he is taking to expedite the work of the Monopolies Commission.

Mr. P. Thorneycroft

As the hon. Members know, a Bill to amend the Monopolies and Restrictive Practices (Inquiry and Control) Act, 1948, has been introduced and was read a First time yesterday. The text is now available in the Vote Office. The new Bill will enable the Commission to deal at any one time with a larger number of references than at present, since the size of the Commission will be increased and their functions will be exercisable by separate groups.
