§ Lieut. - Colonel Bromley - Davenportasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Defence whether, with the object of achieving the maximum economy in face of the need to maintain a high level of defence over future decades, he will set up a committee to consider to what extent Service equipment can, without undue loss of efficiency, be used during peace-time to assist the mercantile marine, commercial transport, civil aviation, and other branches of civilian activity; and equally, to what extent service personnel can be employed to assist industry and agriculture without undue interference with their training.
§ Mr. BirchI do not think such a committee could serve the purpose which my hon. and gallant Friend has in mind.
