Mr. Jannerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will now make a statement on the introduction of a Bill to amend the Firearms Act, 1937, in order to impose a longer prison sentence on persons found carrying firearms or other lethal weapons and to impose more severe penalties for other offences under the Act.

As regards the carrying of offensive weapons generally, I am not yet in a position to add to the reply which I gave to a Question by the right hon. Gentleman the Member for South Shields (Mr. Ede) on 19th December.
