HC Deb 26 February 1953 vol 511 cc235-6W
Mr. Watkins

asked the Minister of Education, in regard to the Sophia Evans Foundation Scheme for the benefit of girls in Presteigne, Radnorshire, whether she will sanction the application of Clause 13, subsection (1) (c) of that scheme to such objects as educational visits to museums, books for school libraries, and games equipment, where boys might incidentally share the benefit with girls, bearing in mind the increased importance of this clause now that there is no longer a church school.

Miss Horsbrugh

The objects mentioned are within the scope of Clause 13 (1) (c) of the Scheme, which is for the benefit of girls only. I am therefore prepared to sanction the application of income to those objects and I would not raise objection if, in that application, there was incidental benefit for boys. I am, however, precluded from sanctioning any proposal that would benefit boys ex professo.
