asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what discussions he has with the authorities concerned in regard to the provision of living accommodation for those prison officers who are evicted from official quarters upon retirement.

Although I am prepared to look into particular cases of hardship, it would not be proper for me to take up general housing questions with the local authorities, who have a statutory responsibility to discharge in the selection of their tenants.
