§ 24. Mr. G. Thomsonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many murders were committed during the period of the suspension of the death penalty, from 16th April, 1948, to 10th June, 1948; and how many murders were committed during the same period of each year from 1945 to 1952.
§ Sir D. Maxwell FyfeThe number of murders committed during the period in question in each of the years 1946 to 1951 was as follows; 1946, 24; 1947, 30; 1948, 28; 1949, 17; 1950, 25; 1951, 19. The provisional figure for 1952 is 25. I regret that the figures for 1945 are not available.
