HC Deb 26 February 1953 vol 511 c237W
90. Mr. Grimond

asked the President of the Board of Trade what steps he is taking to help the export of herring.

Mr. P. Thorneycroft

I am naturally very ready to consider any practicable suggestions which the industry might make on ways in which my Department can help it in its efforts to increase its overseas sales. We have already succeeded, in our negotiations with certain countries with which we have bilateral trade arrangements, in securing markets for our herring industry; and we shall continue to pay full attention to the needs of the industry in such negotiations.
