§ 29. Mr. D. Jonesasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies why he permitted the outright sale of the bauxite deposits in Jamaica; and why only 1s. per ton royalty is being paid in this territory, whereas in other Caribbean territories higher royalties are being secured.
§ Mr. LytteltonThe bauxite deposits in Jamaica have not been sold outright:216W they are leased to the operating companies for 25 years. Royalty at the rate of 1s. a ton was fixed in 1947. Under the Mining Regulations there is provision for the revision of royalties every five years, and such a revision is now being considered.
