HC Deb 24 February 1953 vol 511 cc200-1W
42. Mr. Turner

asked the President of the Board of Trade to make a statement on the future of the British Industries Fair.

Mr. Mackeson

My hon. Friend will be aware that there have been rumours that this year's British Industries Fair is to be the last. I can assure him that there is no foundation for them and that, immediately the Coronation Fair is over, work will begin on the 1954 Fair which will be held in London and Birmingham from 3rd May to 14th May.

As announced in reply to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Shrewsbury (Mr. Langfold-Holt) on 16th December, the Exhibition's Advisory Committee are studying, at my right hon. Friend's request, the best way to organise the British Industries Fair in the longer term. But they have already told me that they are unanimously of the opinion that the Fair should continue.
