HC Deb 23 February 1953 vol 511 cc196-7W
Sir W. Darling

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power to what extent he is encouraging the use of wood, unsuitable for other purposes, as fuel in Scotland.

Mr, Geoffrey Lloyd

My Department is always ready to give advice to those who wish to use wood waste to the best advantage. Itis a valuable fuel for local use, but is of comparatively low calorific value and its bulk makes transport very expensive. I do not think that any special steps to encourage its use are necessary.
