HC Deb 23 February 1953 vol 511 cc182-3W
57. Lieut.-Colonel Hyde

asked the Minister of Transport how far Her Majesty's Government include within the ambit of national expenditure on victims of the recent storms, compensation for those who lost their lives or belongings in the sinking of m.v. "Princess Victoria."

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

As my hon. and gallant Friend is aware, the Government are making a substantial contribution to the Lord Mayor's National Flood and Tempest Distress Fund. The Lord Mayor stated in his broadcast on 4th February that this Fund would also cover those who were suffering distress through shipwreck during the previous few days. Benefits under the National Insurance Acts will be paid to passengers and members of the crew who suffered in this disaster or to their dependents where the usual conditions are fulfilled.
