§ 79. Mr. S. O. Daviesasked the First Lord of the Admiralty to make a statement on the assistance given by the British Navy to British shipping when subject to piratical attacks in the China Seas.
§ Commander NobleOn 25th October, 1951, a British merchant vessel s.s. "Hupeh," was intercepted by pirates, but was rescued a few hours later by H.M.N.Z.S. "Rotoiti." On 11 th February, 1952, s.s. "Wingsang" was fired on and stopped by pirates. On this occasion H.M.S. "Cossack" was diverted to intervene, but "Winesang" had been released before "Cossack" could arrive.
