HC Deb 19 February 1953 vol 511 cc164-5W
113. Mr. Russell

asked the President of the Board of Trade to make a further statement on the entry of Japan into the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade and especially on the safeguards to protect British industries and Commonwealth trade against disruptive competition.

Mr. P. Thorneycroft

The Intersessional Committee of the Contracting Parties to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade has just submitted to Governments for their consideration a report on the matters which it was asked to consider, including the question of safeguards against disruptive competition. The text of the communiqué issued at the conclusion of the meeting of the Committee, which has already been reported in the Press, will also be published in this week's Board of Trade Journal, and I cannot make any further statement at this stage.
