§ 99. Sir H. Williamsasked the Minister of Health, whether, having regard to the fact that the enumerated population on 8th April, 1951, was 76,000 less than that which had been estimated by the 161W Registrar General, he will institute an inquiry to discover whether this deficiency is due to inaccuracy in the birth and death rate statistics or in the migration statistics.
§ Mr. Iain MacleodThe 76,000 difference represents little more than one-fifth of one per cent. of the births, deaths and migration of the period between the Censuses of 1931 and 1951. I am advised that an attempt to apportion it in the manner suggested in the Question would probably be inconclusive and would in any case serve no useful purpose.
