HC Deb 17 February 1953 vol 511 c101W
91. Mr. Ross

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that Scottish unemployment figures are now higher than at any time in the past three years: and whether he will make a statement on the Government's employment policy for Scotland.

Mr. Watkinson

Yes. The Government's employment policy for Scotland falls into two parts. First, our general economic and financial policy which aims at placing our whole economic life as a trading nation on a sound basis as the only guarantee of the maintenance of high standards of employment and livelihood. Second. within the framework of that policy to encourage with the powers at our disposal the development of industry and trade in those areas which from various causes are suffering from unemployment.
