HC Deb 17 February 1953 vol 511 cc127-8W
Mr. Bossom

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government to give some official body in Kent the authority to permit the immediate destruction, or burying of the carcases of drowned animals that have become stranded on property possessed by farmers other than the actual owners of the dead animals.

Sir T. Dugdale

I have been asked to reply. No authority is required from me to deal with these carcases, nor have I any special powers for the purpose. The Kent C.A.E.C. is taking all necessary steps to deal with the problem in the abnormal circumstances. In the event of any difficulty farmers should approach their County Agricultural Executive Committee. Generally disposal of these carcases is proceeding smoothly in Kent. Farmers who have such carcases on their land should bear in mind the possibility, where practicable, of salvage with the help of knackers or otherwise.
