84. Mr. Hamilton

asked the Minister of Works how much was spent on the redecoration of Clarence House in 1948; what is the estimated expenditure on redecoration in 1953; and whether, in view of the serious economic situation of the country, he will review the expenditure by his Department.

Mr. Eccles

Expenditure on the modernisation of Clarence House in 1948–49 was £55,000. The cost of adaptations, redecorations and necessary maintenance work for the change of occupation is about £8,000. This work is completed.

Mr. Bence

asked the Minister of Works what is the total sum expended, to date, on the reconstruction and decoration of Clarence House.

Mr. Eccles

The cost to the grant-inaid of adapting Clarence House for the change of occupation is about £8,000. The work is completed.
