§ 91. Mr. G. P. Stevensasked the Assistant Postmaster-General if, in view of the inadequacy of the weather information broadcast during the weekend of 31st January and 1st February, 1953, he will take steps for the early restoration of the weather service formerly provided by the Airmet broadcasts.
§ Mr. GammansThe Airmet service was discontinued because no suitable wavelength, which could be picked up by broadcast receivers, was available for it after the adoption of the Copenhagen Plan in 1950. In any case, it was not a warning service, and listeners had to tune in to it specially. The B.B.C. is not responsible for initiating warnings, but only for broadcasting the information supplied to them.
