HC Deb 11 February 1953 vol 511 c42W
88. Lieut.-Commander Maydon

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty if he will make a further increase in the allocation of steel to shipbuilders and ship repairers during the second quarter of 1953

Mr. J. P. L. Thomas

The allocation of steel for shipbuilding in the second quarter of 1953 will be about 6 per cent. higher than in the present quarter. This is about the same rate of increase as has been made progressively each quarter since 1st July, 1952.

The requirements of steel for ship repairs have always been a first charge on the total allocation and have been made in full in order to reduce to a minimum the period during which ships must be immobilised.
