HC Deb 11 February 1953 vol 511 cc33-4W
62. Mr. Beswick

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Defence to what extent a Service Department accepts responsibility for the safety and suitability of aircraft used for the transport of Service personnel.

Mr. Birch

The Service Department concerned is responsible for stating requirements for air transport to the Air Ministry. If suitable air transport is available, it has been agreed that the Air Ministry should place air trooping contracts on behalf of all three Service Departments. These contracts are in all cases placed with operators approved by the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
