asked the Minister of Supply whether, in view of the increase of 1s. per ton in railway rates for transporting scrap metal, it has now been decided to increase the merchants' controlled price for scrap.

I assume that my hon. Friend is referring to the increase in railway freight rates of 1s. in the £. I have made an Order authorising corresponding increases in the maximum prices of iron and steel scrap. These vary between 11d. and 1s. 11d. per ton. The present average price of iron and steel scrap is about £6 per ton.
