HC Deb 09 February 1953 vol 511 c9W
61. Mr. Spence

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if, when thanking the Canadian Government for the generous offer of help already made in the national emergency, he will inquire whether this might include the sending of detachments of the Canadian Forestry Corps, with equipment, to give assistance in clearing the devastation wrought in Scottish forests.

Mr. J. Stuart

On present information, I am advised that the available resources in this country will prove adequate. I realise that the damage is very serious in certain areas, but this does not apply to the whole of Scotland. Her Majesty's Government are, of course, most grateful to the Canadian Government for their offer of help. The Prime Minister is, I understand, thanking them formally and I am sure the whole House will join in expressing their thanks.
