HC Deb 05 February 1953 vol 510 c217W
12. Mr. Osborne

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that British exports are now only 25 per cent. of Denmark's total imports against 40 per cent. pre-war, due largely to our prices being too high; and in what class of exports have British prices risen.

Mr. P. Thorneycroft

I am aware that the proportion which Denmark's imports of goods of United Kingdom origin bear to her total imports has fallen from about one quarter in 1938 to about one fifth in 1952. I have no precise information about the changes, as compared with pre-war, in prices of United Kingdom exports to Denmark, either generally or in respect of particular classes of goods; but I doubt whether the fall in our share of the Danish market can be attributed to any single cause.
