HC Deb 04 February 1953 vol 510 c202W
62. Mr. J. Hynd

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what amount of native trust land has been alienated to non-Africans in Northern Rhodesia in each year since 1948.

Mr. Lyttelton

The figures for 1949–52, apart from small areas occupied for Government purposes, were 473 acres, 910 acres, nil and 8 acres respectively. All this land was granted to missions for strictly limited periods of occupancy. During the same period over 12,000 acres of freehold land was purchased and transferred to Native Reserve or Trust Land.
