HC Deb 04 February 1953 vol 510 c211W
81. Mr. Vane

asked the Minister of Works what principles guide him in his choice of an architect when he has decided to build a new British embassy or legation in a foreign capital, or extensively rebuild existing premises.

Mr. Eccles

The choice of an architect for a Government building overseas is determined by local conditions, such as climate and architectural tradition, and by the experience and talent available within the Ministry and outside. The aim in each case is to select an architect specially qualified to carry out the work, and the choice may fall on a Ministry of Works architect or on an architect in private practice either in this country or locally.
