HC Deb 04 February 1953 vol 510 c201W
56. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies why Chief Werekam Da Na is compelled by the Togoland Government to pay £200 annually to Na Yizi, of Manipreesi, in the Gold Coast northern territories and a further £200 to the Paramount Chief in the northern territories of French Togoland; and the reason for the destooling of Alechu in the Gold Coast northern territories.

Mr. Lyttelton

The hon. Member has been misinformed. The Woricamdana does not make any payment either to the Nayiri or to any Chief in French Togo-land. Alechu of Balai was never appointed to the traditional office which he claimed and so has not been destooled.
