HC Deb 04 February 1953 vol 510 cc207-8W
Mr. Alport

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General how many applications for telephones are outstanding from private subscribers in the Colchester area; and the average length of time before the telephone is supplied.

Mr. Gammans

599 applications were outstanding at 31st December, 1952. Service is provided in about two months for priority applicants where exchange equipment and line plant are available. Other applications are, unfortunately, held up because of shortage of plant, but good progress is being made with the installation of additional equipment at the exchange. New cables are also being provided.
