HC Deb 04 February 1953 vol 510 cc200-1W
Mr. Lewis

asked the Minister of Food if he is aware that from 3rd November, 1951, until 27th December, 1952, approximately 32,000,000 rations of bacon were not taken up; what was the reason for this short-fall in the take-up; and what action he has taken, and intends to take, to enable the public to take up their full bacon ration.

Major Lloyd George

The figure quoted by the hon. Member is misleading, but there are many reasons why the bacon ration was not taken up in full last year. Not least was the fact that the ration was at the satisfactory level of 5 ounces for most of the time and that it was possible from October onward to buy cooked gammon off the ration.
