HC Deb 03 February 1953 vol 510 cc192-3W
Mr. Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will give details of the number of police and others employed in the Palace of Westminster, coming within the control of his Department, who have not received an increase in their wage or salary rate since 1946; what, on an average per cent., has been the increase to the remainder; how many were in the £1,000 per annum category in 1946; and the present remuneration of the latter.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

There have been increases in pay since 1946 for all the grades of police officers who perform duty at the Palace of Westminster. The average percentage increases are 40 per cent. for constables, 37 per cent. for sergeants and 39 per cent. for inspectors No police officers who were so employed in 1946 received salaries of £1,000 a year or more.

I have no responsibility for any other persons employed at the Palace of Westminster.
